By immersing ourselves in different cultures, meeting new people, and experiencing the unfamiliar, we can expand our perspectives and gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

Travel can also be a form of self-care and relaxation, allowing us to escape the stresses of our daily lives and recharge our batteries. Whether it’s lounging on a beach, exploring a new city, or trekking through the wilderness, there’s something about travel that rejuvenates and inspires us, which is why travel is worthwhile.

The Importance of Creating Lifelong Memories Through Travel

Traveling is not just about seeing new places, but also about creating memories that will last a lifetime. Memories are a fundamental aspect of traveling, and they are what make the experience unique and unforgettable. Memories can be formed in many ways, including trying new foods, meeting new people, experiencing different cultures, and engaging in outdoor activities.

One of the most significant benefits of creating memories through travel is that they can become a source of inspiration for future adventures. Remembering past experiences and the joy they brought can motivate individuals to continue exploring the world and discovering new places. Memories can also help individuals appreciate the present and remember the importance of living in the moment.

Some of the most powerful memories that can be formed while traveling include trying new and unique foods, visiting historical landmarks, and participating in cultural experiences. For example, trying local delicacies can provide a sensory experience that engages all the senses, and learning about the history of a place can provide a deeper appreciation of its culture and significance.

Personal travel memories are also unique and significant, which is why travel is worthwhile. Memories can be anything from a beautiful sunset seen from a mountain top to a conversation with a local resident. Such memories can serve as a reminder of the beauty of the world and the importance of embracing different cultures.

Embracing the Journey: Overcoming Challenges in Travel

Travel is not always smooth sailing. It often comes with its fair share of challenges and obstacles, from canceled flights to lost luggage and language barriers. However, it’s how we choose to respond to these challenges that can make all the difference in our travel experiences.

Prepare for the unexpected. This means having a backup plan in case of any mishaps, such as bringing a carry-on bag with essential items in case of lost luggage. It also means being flexible and open to unexpected changes in itinerary or plans. Some of the best travel memories can come from unexpected detours and unplanned adventures.

Another common challenge for travelers is communication barriers, especially when visiting a foreign country with a language barrier. However, this can also be an opportunity to connect with locals and immerse oneself in the culture. Learning a few key phrases in the local language can go a long way in making connections and creating memorable experiences.

We’re here to help when things get confusing.

Travel can also bring personal challenges, such as stepping outside of one’s comfort zone or facing fears. Whether it’s trying new foods or engaging in adrenaline-pumping activities, overcoming these challenges can lead to personal growth and unforgettable memories.

Overall, while travel may come with its share of challenges, it’s important to embrace them and view them as opportunities for personal growth and creating lifelong memories.

Connecting Through Travel: How Building Relationships Creates Lasting Memories

Traveling isn’t just about seeing new places and taking stunning photos – it’s also an opportunity to connect with people from all over the world. Whether it’s through striking up a conversation with a local shopkeeper, meeting fellow travelers in a hostel, or joining a group tour, the connections we make while traveling can be some of the most memorable parts of the experience.

Connecting with locals can offer an insight into their way of life, cultural traditions, and unique perspectives on the world. Whether it’s learning to cook a traditional dish, participating in a local festival, or simply chatting with someone at a café, these interactions can create powerful memories and have a lasting impact on our worldview.

Similarly, connecting with other travelers can lead to lifelong friendships and provide a sense of community while on the road. From sharing travel tips and recommendations to embarking on adventures together, these shared experiences can create some of the most memorable moments of a trip.

Personal travel experiences often highlight the value of these connections. From attending a local wedding in India and being welcomed into the family’s home, to hiking with new friends in New Zealand and watching the sunrise over the mountains, these connections and relationships are often the highlights of our travels and can create lasting memories that go beyond the sights and sounds of a place.

In short, travel provides an opportunity to connect with people from all walks of life, creating meaningful relationships that can result in unforgettable memories. What to Expect When Cruising Now

What to Expect When Cruising Now

Cruising is a great experience, and if you’ve never done it before, it is not too late to try! Booking is done in a second, and you can enjoy the perk of having everything included. However, since COVID hit, many people are worried that cruising will never be the same again.

Fortunately, cruising is not lost forever, and it is making its comeback with cruises being available today. Things will be a bit different from what you might be used to on a normal cruise, but they promise that the revamped buffets, smaller group sizes, and ‘vaccinated only’ zones are well worth the wait.

More Health & Safety Measures in Place

There are many more health and safety measures put in place since they re-opened the docks. One of the biggest is that those who are riding on the ships need to be fully vaccinated if they’re over the age of 16, this includes the crew. This safety measure is being used on many different transportation systems, as well as in hotels and other places of interest.

These health and safety measures also include distance planned events and activities, as well as reduced capacity inside the ships. If you are feeling any sort of sickness coming on, they have medical facilities that you can visit and be quarantined in before the sickness can get any further.

With so many precautions in place and more information on this disease, these cruise ships are now becoming more prepared in handling these sicknesses. These cruise ships have plans in place and know that it is a possibility that a breakout can happen. Minimizing the risks is what they are doing, so you never have to worry about getting sick with the knowledge of knowing they have you back.

Less Spots, Less Crowds, Less People in General

Since the capacity levels are much lower on these ships, this brings less people in general in the many common areas that you’d find yourself. Not just that, but there are going to be less crowds, which means less lines, and more to see and do without the hustle and bustle you’d normally have from a touristy area.

Whether you’re cruising across the world or just to the Caribbean, being able to get a spot and enjoy the time is good. Booking in advance is important to do because of this. Many people are already booking their spots on the ships, and they are booking out further. Even half capacity on some ships is making it harder for some to reserve spots on these boats.

More Money Saving Deals

To make these ships more appealing to those who are looking to explore more, they are offering additional money saving deals. Even though these ships are at a reduced capacity and are highly in demand, these cruise lines are still offering money saving promos to take advantage. Not only can you grab 40% off many of the rooms on the lines, but you can also even get most of the cost off your second passenger booking with you.

However, it is important to note that you must make sure to take advantage of these deals now. The lines are long for waiting lists, and many of them are booked out to 2023. Shipboard credits are a big seller for many, as well and not just price saving on the cruise itself. Now is the time to book these ships, especially if you want shorter lines and less crowds.

Your Vaccination Status

This is important to keep in mind because now, when you go anywhere, you must show proof of your vaccinations. The same is true for a lot of these cruise ships that are looking to book their rooms with those who are fully vaccinated. Not every cruise line requires them, and it is important to check whether the cruise line you’re going on requires them or not.

It has been shown that for many of them, like the Royal Caribbean cruise line, that you must show the original card when you are boarding the ship to have proof. Then, to go back and forth through the Bahamas, you have to have it uploaded online. This way, it can continuously be checked by authorities, should it be needed.

The same goes for those areas that you want to visit while you’re on land. Many of them only let those who are vaccinated inside the places. Therefore, you need to bring the vaccination paper along with you wherever you choose to go.

The same goes for the masks that you should wear in many of the common areas. This is for on and off the cruise ship. Many places might still require you to wear the mask in them, so having them on hand when you’re on and off the ship is recommended to be prepared.

Buffet Changes Being Made

The buffets that come included with the favorite meal choices are still going to be there and ready for you to enjoy. The only difference is that the passengers are unable to serve themselves. They will have to point at the food choices, and someone will serve them on a plate. You can still have as much as you’d like to have, because it is still a buffet after all! You just must do less work to get your food.

Cleaner Ships Mean Healthier Passengers

Since the CDC recommends regular cleanings for surfaces to reduce the spread of COVID, this means cleaner ships for all. This, in turn, means healthier passengers. The surfaces have to be regularly cleaned, the chairs, and everything that is being used in the common areas have to be sanitized regularly, as well. This extra layer of clean extends to the guest rooms, as well.

This means less germs that are being passed around on these boats. The best is yet to come, because on some of these ships, you can expect to get the best air quality. The ships have spent money to make sure that each passenger is able to breathe their own air in their state room.

This cleaner air, extra layer of sanitation and cleaner ship overall means less sickness for all the passengers, and not just from COVID. It protects them from other types of sicknesses that would otherwise end up getting everyone on the cruise ship sick.

Reservations and Technology Advancements

In the past, you could enter a ship and just walk around and find something to do as you please. This was a great way to learn how a cruise ship works. However, it is important to note that now you might just need a reservation for that thing you want to do for the night. This is not just for shows that are ongoing, but the gym and any of the other amenities that they are offering.

This is not only to reduce the amount of people allowed in a room, along with cleaning and sanitation reasons, but the cruise ship is easily able to do tracing should someone end up sick. This makes it easier for the cruise ship to contact anyone who might have been in contact with each other when they’re sick.

The technologies are also changing, not just the reservations. You can expect contactless and person less meeting in many of the places. You can look up the menus and other information with QR codes, but also virtual reservations and check ins, and virtual lines. Contactless payments are recommended and preferred, giving you more chances to spend time with those you came on the cruise ship with, instead of being around large crowds of people at once.

Slowly Returning to Normal

Even though everything seems to be different in these ships, they will slowly return to normal with time. The way that things are being done now are going to be done different in the coming months or even years. It might take some time to get back to normal.

Even now, many of the activities already seem to be back to normal for many of the passengers. This is something that is making the cruise ships, and even the passengers who regularly ride on them, hopeful for the future of cruising ahead.

Even though mostly everything is done digitally or virtually, including safety instructions and checks, it might be a little bit before you’re able to get more from the cruise. Things might seem weird now, but they might just check out for you in the end.

Just remember that the rules vary from cruise to cruise and place to place. It is important to check and know that being vaccinated is very important in order to get on many of the cruise lines and ships.

Be Flexible and Ready!

If you can be flexible with your times and hours that you can cruise, you have many more options to choose from. Since there are minimal spots on these ships, the more flexible and open you are for when you want to go or are able to go; the more chances you have to pick a spot and be able to head out on one of the ships.

One of the best ways to do this is by booking your cruise on a whim. If you are ready, choosing a cruise that is last minute and has one or two more rooms available is going to give you a great deal, but also open up more possibilities.

If you’re booking further out, then being flexible with what is available is good. A lot of people will not cruise during specific times of the year because of the cruise conditions. If you’re open to cruising during these times, you have more to choose from when booking a cruise and heading out.

Simulation Cruise and New Health Protocols

By: Leah Jorgensen

On July 28, I received an email. I was offered a 4-night Caribbean sailing on Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas’ Simulation sailing. The kicker? It was sailing on August 1, and only available to fully vaccinated guests. So I quickly contacted my mother since she is retired and always up for an adventure, made sure we both had our passports and vaccination records, and accepted the offer! Three days later, my father and brother drove us down to Galveston to the ship!

For a Simulation sailing, just about everything is the same, but the guests are at 10% capacity, and the CDC was disguised onboard. Having 400 guests on a ship that has the capacity for 4,370 passengers made it feel like the ship was just ours! It was a little eerie how empty it was, but there was never a line or a wait for anything! The entire crew is vaccinated and had been in quarantine on the ship for 2 months already. They were thrilled to be working again after 15 months, and so happy to just see other people on board. I’ve never seen a happier crew, happier entertainers, and happier guests.

Embarkation was seamless! We could only arrive at the port at our assigned time, and everything was organized. Passports were checked, vaccination records were checked, recorded, and photographed, quickly went through security, and then we were allowed onboard!

One of the biggest headaches of starting any sailing is the safety drills. Due to Covid, they are no longer safe since social distancing needs to be followed. But Royal Caribbean now has a fantastic app for your phone! Once we made it to our rooms and picked up our Sea Passes, we watched a video on our apps of how to find and wear lifejackets, what to do in an emergency, and played the sound clip of the ship’s emergency notification horn. Then it was time to find our assigned lifeboat. Once there, a crew member verified we had watched the safety video and placed a sticker on our Sail Passes to show we had completed the safety drill.

Now I’m not one who wants to keep my phone on me when I’m on vacation (isn’t the point to get unplugged and out of reach?), but the app really was handy! Easy to use and find scheduled activities, we were able to make dinner reservations, reserve show tickets, and make our own personalized schedule. If you’re not sure where something is, the deck plans are there at your fingertips! Don’t worry about waiting in line at Guest Services- your on-board account is already in your hand!

Speaking of hands, we are still living in a pandemic. Every doorway now has hand sanitizer, but instead of just sitting there available, we were asked (required) to use it every time. And outside the Windjammer restaurant, soap and water stations have been installed, and are required to be used before entering. The amount of food has not changed, and the crew will happily put whatever you would like on your plate for you. (Really- I suggest taking the stairs as much as possible so you can fill up with less guilt!) The crew was constantly sanitizing hand rails, chairs, tables, anything that could be touched, and often disinfected the walls. The ships have always been clean, but it was spotless- all of the time.

Being vaccinated, I was allowed into any venue, activity, public area, and restaurant. But being a simulation, there were some people that were chosen to be “un-vaccinated”. Those who are vaccinated are given a purple plastic bracelet to wear- and they were often checked too. Those who were un-vaccinated had specific shows, time and location for main dining, and activities they were allowed to enter. They still had a full schedule and throughout the sailing were still allowed to see and do everything, but there were just specific times they were allowed to do certain activities. Everyone is still required to wear masks while moving around the ship, but we were allowed to take them off while sitting and actively eating and drinking, and while outside. The crew is still required to leave their masks on even while outside.

When we arrived in Cozumel, we parked next to the Adventure of the Seas, that is currently sailing out of Nassau, Bahamas. Vaccinated guests are allowed to leave the ship, but unvaccinated guests are only allowed off for a Royal Caribbean excursion. On the docks, we got the chance to talk with some very happy folks from Michigan who told us what a fantastic vacation they were having! Their sailing had about 900 guests and they were getting the Royal treatment as well! Mom and I were able to find a taxi (William in taxi 318) to get us to a beach to stick our feet in the water, which is all we were looking for, and back to the dock (I do not normally suggest ‘choose-your-own-adventure’ as there’s always a chance of being late and being left!)! All of the shops in Cozumel were ecstatic to see people shopping there again- the pandemic and halting of travel has really affected us all.

All-in-all, I felt extremely safe. The safety protocols are working and people are able to be back at work. This sailing was a dream, but I hope we don’t have to live through this again in my lifetime. If you do get a chance to sail on the Independence of the Seas, especially before January (and contracts move workers), tell pianist Timothy Boaz, guitarist Darla Fox, and waiters Sanjay and Red that I sent you!

Review: Alaska With Princess Cruises

By: Amalia Marin, Senior Travel Consultant (CTA)

I just took my very first cruise and chose to go to Alaska with Princess. Since it’s my first cruise, I don’t have anything to really compare it to, but all I can say is that it was a remarkable experience!

The ship we sailed on was the Crown Princess. I loved all the different amenities, activities, entertainment and dining offered onboard. I think food is very important for most, so I’ll say that their food was really varied, fresh, and delicious. There is something for everybody and the seafood options were especially tasty. Main dining was so incredible that we didn’t even find it necessary to try the specialty dining…but, of course, we tried it anyway and that was a really great experience.

On days we were at sea we always had something to see and do. There were broadway-style performances, comedians, dance classes, and more. There’s a gym, a spa, a casino, pools, and an area for golf and games.

Aside from the experience onboard the ship, the time we spent at the ports and enjoying Alaska was my favorite. The trip started in Vancouver and we visited Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan, and Icy Strait Point. The towns were very nice but Alaska’s natural wonders are the true reason to visit. We were able to view Hubbard Glacier and we took a few optional excursions as well. We visited a salmon hatchery and enjoyed an outdoor salmon bake. We took a train ride with the most amazing views of mountains, creeks, and forests. We canoed on Lake Harriet Hunt and did a nature trail through the rainforest.

I loved Alaska and would definitely recommend exploring this beautiful state with Princess cruises.

Review: Oceania Riviera Cruise

By: Autumn Cruse, Senior Travel Consultant (CTA)

Oceania Cruises is a force to be reckoned with! From the beautiful decor, the activities, and the cuisine, it’s truly a small ship luxury indeed. The passengers on the sailing make it all worthwhile. Eight different locations and only two sail days. I had the opportunity to reside in a verandah, but after a visit seeing all categories, there’s not an unfortunate cabin on the ship. Trivia was my favorite…won some great prizes on last day of the sailing. It was a long time away from home, but the favor granted to see and learn for myself what others love was life changing. I’m forever grateful!!!

Review: Oceania Riviera Cruise

By: Alissa Ashley, Senior Travel Consultant (CTA)

I had a wonderful relaxing time on my Oceania Cruise aboard the Riviera. Unfortunately, the main port of the cruise was Bermuda and was canceled due to bad weather and 30 Ft waves. Oceania did their best to accommodate by adding a stop at Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas which was also canceled due to the currents being too dangerous to boat passengers from the ship over to the island.  Oceania then reported that the itinerary changed to 3 days at sea, 2 days in Jacksonville, FL, 2 days in Charleston, SC and 1 day Port Carnival As you can imagine there were some very upset passengers upon boarding and with the port replacement of Jacksonville. I was very impressed with how Oceania did their best to address the passengers, empathize and tried to add some additional activities. At the end of the day mother nature has a mind of her own and therefore out of Oceania’s control with the main priority being safety.

SOLO Travel:

I decided to travel alone which was a great experience.  For the first 3 nights they offered a single traveler gathering where passengers could get to know each other.  However, I had no problem making friends with passengers traveling together.  All of my shared tabled guests were inviting and fun to sit with.

Cabins:

The veranda cabin I was staying in felt like I was at a very high end hotel.  Rooms were very contemporary, lots of rooms with a sitting area, large bathrooms with a rain shower and the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in.  I’m actually thinking of ordering their beds.

Ship Feel:

For only having 1150 passengers and 800 staff, I have to say that I saw more staff than passengers.  The boat never seemed crowded except for embarking and disembarking at the ports.  There was always plenty of seating around the ship and in dining areas.  The ship is decorated in art and paintings everywhere.  It actually felt like you were in a museum in certain areas.

Service:

The Ship Crew and service was impeccable.  I never saw one crew member not in an upbeat mood or willing to assist a passenger with questions or needs. My 2 attendants Soe Soe and Jaun made me feel very welcomed and anything I needed they were able to assist.

Optional Excursions:

Most of the excursions I had paid for were in Bermuda but I did do the Full Day private Island with Lunch in the Bahamas and a city tour of Charleston. Charleston was a very charming town and I walked everywhere within the city admiring the houses, trees and architecture.   All were very organized and Oceania did a great job keeping all the passengers together.

Entertainment:

The offered a wide range of entertainment from comedy shows, listening to the string quartet, wildlife educational talks, yoga classes, karaoke and more.  My favorite activity was High Tea  with the string quartet at 4 pm daily.  It was a nice day to relax and view the ocean.

Dining:

I was able to try all 4 of the Specialty Restaurants, but my favorite was Jacques, the atmosphere made me feel like I was in France. The courses were beautifully presented, delicious and consistent across all courses. My morning ritual was the coffee bar, Barista’s, where I had lots of friendly conversations with other passengers and staff. The juice bar was also one of my regular stop bys to make sure I got my greens for the morning.  The Terrace which was the buffet always had a variety of choices for every kind of eater.  I did hear several past passengers say that they felt that the food was not as good as it was before COVID.

Best Learning Tip:

The biggest learning that came from the cruise was not only experiencing the ship itself but actually listening to the passengers talk about their prior experience with Oceania, the other itineraries they have taken and other competitor cruise lines that they enjoyed.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to experience Oceania Cruise of the Riviera. Thank you so much for allowing me to go.  I definitely would like to take another cruise with them and actually experience the set itinerary of ports.

Review: Cosmos – Highlights of the Canyonlands

By: Lynette Ehlert, Senior Travel Consultant (CTA)

I had such an amazing adventure on my tour.  It started in Las Vegas and went on to the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Lake Powell, Antelope Slot Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park.

When we arrived at the Grand Canyon and walked out to the south rim the sheer beauty made me cry!  The following morning I took the excursion helicopter ride over the Canyon.  It was so amazing to see from different viewing levels.

Each park we went to I thought wow this is my favorite but in the end Zion National Park was my perfect match!

I really enjoyed the educational information (history and Science) that the tour director informed us about as we drove from location to location.  I noticed everyone in our group really enjoyed her personality and when things didn’t go as planned she was very quick at finding a resolution.

Taking this tour has helped me now understand this process from door to door.  Tours are really wonderful for people not looking for just a vacation but an immersive experience.

Raise a Glass: Discovering the Best Bars in Ireland

When it comes to pub culture, few countries do it better than Ireland. For centuries, pubs have served as the cornerstone of Irish social life, providing a place for friends, family, and even strangers to gather over a pint of Guinness or a dram of whiskey. With so many pubs to choose from, it can be overwhelming for visitors to know where to start. Today, we’ll take a closer look at some of Ireland’s most famous bars, from historic pubs serving customers for centuries to trendy microbreweries offering a contemporary twist on the traditional Irish pub experience. So whether you’re a first-time visitor to the Emerald Isle or a seasoned traveler, come along as we raise a glass to discover the best bars in Ireland.

The Temple Bar, Dublin

The Temple Bar is a famous pub located in the heart of Dublin’s cultural quarter, known as Temple Bar. The neighborhood is named after Sir William Temple, a renowned politician, and diplomat who once lived in the area. Today, Temple Bar is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike, with a vibrant arts scene, trendy boutiques, and plenty of pubs.

The Temple Bar pub itself has a long and storied history, dating back to the early 1300s. Over the centuries, the pub has been known by many names and has had many owners, but it has always been a hub of social activity in the city. Today, The Temple Bar is known as one of the most famous pubs in Ireland and a must-visit destination for anyone looking to experience the traditional Irish pub culture.

You’ll be greeted by a warm and lively atmosphere as soon as you enter The Temple Bar. The walls are adorned with memorabilia and decorations that celebrate Irish history and culture, from old photographs of Dublin to vintage Guinness signs. The pub is also known for its extensive whiskey collection, with bottles lining the shelves behind the bar.

One of the main draws of The Temple Bar is its live music sessions, which take place every day of the week. Traditional Irish musicians take to the stage to perform classic ballads, jigs, and reels, creating a lively and upbeat atmosphere. Visitors are encouraged to join in the fun by singing along, clapping their hands, or even trying to play an instrument themselves.

The Temple Bar is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to experience the best of Irish pub culture. Its central location in the heart of Dublin’s Temple Bar neighborhood makes it the perfect place to stop for a pint or two after exploring the nearby landmarks such as Dublin Castle or St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

Sean’s Bar, Athlone

Sean’s bar, located in the town of Athlone in County Westmeath, is often referred to as the oldest pub in Ireland. Its history can be traced back over 1,100 years to the time of the Vikings, who established a trading settlement in the area. The pub is said to have been a popular watering hole for the Viking warriors who once roamed the town.

Today, Sean’s Bar retains much of its historic charm, with a cozy interior featuring exposed brick walls, low ceilings, and a warm fireplace. The pub’s décor celebrates its long history, with old photographs and memorabilia adorning the walls.

Sean’s bar is also known for its traditional Irish music sessions, which take place every night of the week. Local musicians gather to perform classic Irish ballads, jigs, and reels, creating a lively and authentic atmosphere. The pub’s small size means that visitors can get up close and personal with the musicians and feel like they are part of the action.

In addition to its historical significance and lively music scene, Sean’s Bar is located in the heart of Athlone, making it a great place to stop for a pint after exploring the town’s many landmarks. Nearby attractions include Athlone Castle, which dates back to the 13th century and features interactive exhibits on Irish history, as well as the beautiful River Shannon, which flows through the town.
