Cunard Cruises

Before you board.
All guests will be subject to testing for Covid-19 in the period before traveling and/or at the cruise terminal. If a guest tests positive for Covid-19, or if anyone in their household has any symptoms or are self-isolating in the days prior to their voyage, they will not be permitted to board.
Prior to your departure, Cunard will send you the latest public health guidance as well as pre-voyage information about mitigating the risk of Covid-19, along with a health declaration questionnaire. Please read this carefully as this will include information regarding what to expect when you arrive at the terminal, your time on board, any country specific requirements to be aware of and other relevant protocols while you are traveling with us.

Boarding your ship.
We have enhanced our boarding procedures, working with our partners in the ports. In the cruise terminal, you will be required to adhere to the wearing of face coverings and social distancing, in accordance with all current guidelines.
Further health screening will be conducted before you board your ship. This will include a review of your health declaration questionnaire, a temperature check and more comprehensive medical screening if required. If a guest tests positive for Covid-19, or is identified as having Covid-19-like symptoms, or if they have been exposed or potentially exposed to Covid-19 then they will not be allowed to board.

Cleanliness and care.
We have always taken pride in the cleanliness of our ships. Our enhanced measures will raise these standards even higher, ensuring all areas are inspected and cleaned even more regularly, with products proven to be effective against Covid-19. Added hand sanitizer and hand-washing stations will also be available for your comfort and wellbeing.

Restaurants and bars.
Dining aboard one of our Queens will always be part of what makes a voyage with Cunard so special. Going forward, you may be asked to pre-reserve a table at our restaurants and you will only be permitted to dine with your traveling group or household. Additionally, dishes in our buffets and deck grills will now be served by our wait staff, while each of our restaurants and bars will be adapted to allow for social distancing.

Entertainment.
We’ll continue to offer a comprehensive program of music, theater and guest speakers on each of our voyages, with measures in place to ensure each performance adheres to the latest wellbeing and social distancing guidance.

Activities and leisure.
Areas such as our spa, salon, gym, pools, casino, shops, lounges and children’s clubs will be operating but will be subject to the latest approved guidance to minimize contact, reduce the number of guests in each area, and maintain the highest levels of cleanliness. All public areas will be adapted for social distancing and elevator capacity will be reduced. You may also see changes such as pre-booking come into effect in some areas of our ships for certain activities.

Your suite or stateroom.
Your stateroom steward, or butler if you’re staying in our Queens Grill suites, will maintain your accommodation to our enhanced housekeeping standards throughout your stay. To ensure social distancing, we will kindly ask that you are not in your accommodation while cleaning is taking place. To enhance our stateroom experience even further, we’ll be introducing an extended complimentary room service menu for you to enjoy.

In port.
You can still go ashore and explore the amazing ports we visit, initially only with our organized and vetted shore experiences. Port transfer and organized shore experience operators will be subject to new policies and procedures to reflect the latest approved guidance in line with our on board protocols, and will comply with all local guidance relating to social distancing and face coverings, which may differ from the guidance in your home country. Temperature checks and health screening may be carried out again on re-boarding the ship.

Post-voyage (track and trace).
All guests and crew will need to complete a passenger locator form to adhere to the UK Government’s Track and Trace initiative. Local country initiatives may also apply at the time of sailing.

Hurtigruten Cruises

Be assured that Hurtigruten always follow all safety guidelines as recommended by the Norwegian government. One reason for this confidence in us is because we already have exceptionally high hygiene procedures in place:

  • As normal service resumes, Hurtigruten will be reducing the overall number of guests on ships, giving you plenty of space around you when aboard.
  • In Hurtigruten's roomy restaurants, they are adding more seating sessions so that there will be fewer people having their meals there at any time.
  • Instead of self-service buffets, the chefs will serve food directly to your individual plate.
  • The kitchen will continue to uphold its usual high standards of hygiene and quality.

Strict cleaning practices on board

Count on us to already have a range of strict cleaning practices on board, with the cleanness of each ship also continuously monitored. Regular microbiological samples are taken and sent off to laboratories for testing and they use UV light to check surfaces in cabins, galleys and public areas.

Independent inspectors are invited to conduct scheduled and unannounced visits to all the ships several times a year. The excellent hygiene on board the ships is not something they leave to chance. It is the result of effective controls that have proven themselves time and again over decades of safe sailing.

In addition to this,

  • Each ship will have a new team dedicated to ensuring communal areas are continually cleaned and disinfected.
  • There will be limited use of saunas, swimming pools and gyms.
  • Hurtigruten will also have appropriate markings on the ships to help keep a safe distance from others whenever queuing on board.

Staff and your well-being

  • They have all recently completed the WHO’s official COVID-19 course for hygiene procedures and infection management.
  • Before starting work, every member of the crew undergoes a health check.
  • They have thorough first-aid training and can quickly contact healthcare professionals should any medical need arise.

MSC Cruises

MSC has historically maintained high hygiene standards on all their ships, with rigorous cleaning and sanitisation prior, throughout and at the end of each cruise. We have further enhanced these procedures both with respect to public spaces as well as guest cabins and crew accommodations.

High traffic areas on ships are frequently sanitised with thorough cleansing and using a hospital-grade disinfectant. Key areas, which include public venues and toilets, are sanitised hourly and undergo a fogging process at night.

Guest cabins are cleaned twice a day. Once in the morning with thorough cleansing and wiping using a hospital-grade disinfectant and a further second cleaning for the most exposed surfaces, including telephones and remote controls, in the afternoon.

One of the best ways to stay healthy is to keep your hands clean. Handwashing stations and hand sanitisers are widely available around the ship. MSC has increased the availability of hand sanitiser stations and enforce hand cleansing at all onboard food and other venues.

MEDICAL CARE

All MSC Cruises’ ships are equipped with a well-resourced Medical Centre that is supervised by the ship’s doctor and other medical personnel and which provides a range of medical services for everyone on board.

MSC's medical staff are fully qualified and experienced medical professionals who all follow World Health Organization COVID-19 Recommendations for Healthcare Providers, as well as the recommendations of various health authorities.

Guests who suffer from flu-like symptoms are obliged to stay in their cabin and should contact the onboard Medical Centre as soon as possible. MSC's professional medical team will take care of them there and follow a clear protocol.

FOOD HYGIENE PRACTICES STANDARDS

Guests should wash their hands before entering any of the onboard food venues. There are handwashing stations and sanitiser at the entrance and exit points, with dedicated personnel to ensure that as guests utilize them.

ENTERTAINMENT RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

  • There is frequent cleaning and disinfection of all recreational equipment, toys, games and Kids’ Club facilities (after every use), plus frequent open deck sanitisation of outdoor furniture, sports equipment, pool and aquaparks.
  • Spa and gym facilities are sanitised after every use.

CREW MEMBERS PRACTICES STANDARDS

Princess Cruises

Princess is actively working with public health officials and medical experts in an effort to do everything possible to prevent illness, including COVID-19, onboard Princess ships. Here are some actions that Princess is taking to ensure our guests can sail confidently and safely with Princess.

Changing Itineraries

Princess is constantly monitoring the global health map and cancel or modify itineraries to impacted areas. Princess also prevents guests and crew who have recently traveled through these high-risk locations from boarding.

Enhancing Health Requirements

Princess will deny boarding to guests and crew if they:

  • Have been in contact with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 or a person being monitored for COVID-19.
  • Are suffering from a fever or flu-like symptoms prior to embarkation.

Stepping Up Screenings

At embarkation, Princess will require all guests and crew to participate in mandatory health screenings, which may include a thermal scan to check temperatures, and in some cases secondary screenings. Depending on the results, Princess will deny certain individuals boarding if they feel they could pose a risk to others.

Enhancing Sanitation Procedures in Embarkation Terminals

Enhancing Sanitation Procedures in Embarkation Terminals Beginning in select terminals on March 7, 2020, highly touched surfaces throughout each embarkation terminal will be sanitized continuously, and terminals will be thoroughly sanitized and, where possible, fogged before and after each embarkation and debarkation.

Cleaning Everywhere!

In addition to the rigorous daily cleaning regimen they already have, Princess is establishing additional sanitation measures on all of their ships, which include sanitizing frequently touched surfaces in all public areas – from tables and chairs to casino chips and fitness machines – even more often than they did before.

Free-flowing Hand Sanitizer

Princess already has hand-washing sinks or hand sanitizer dispensers in front of entrances to all dining venues and the buffet. Crew will monitor entrances to all venues to encourage all guests wash their hands before entering. Princess is also adding additional hand sanitizer dispensers in high-traffic areas around the ship.

Keeping Crew Healthy

Each day, Princess is raising awareness daily of how to maintain a healthy environment on board by reinforcing frequent hand-washing, avoiding hand contact, reporting guests who present signs of illness and more. Princess will also more actively enforce crew hand-washing and provide more hand sanitizers in crew areas.

Revising Medical Protocols & Staying Prepared

Every Princess ship sails with a highly capable medical team that will receive special training for COVID-19. Any guest or crew member who exhibits symptoms of respiratory illness will strongly be encouraged to visit the Medical Center for a complimentary consultation and, if appropriate, screening for COVID-19.

24/7 Monitoring and Preparedness

Princess' team monitors world health developments from state-of-the-art Fleet Operations Center in Santa Clarita, California, and offices around the world 24-7. Princess is also in close contact with major health agencies, medical experts and partners in the travel industry so Princess can act quickly to revise plans and protocols as the situation evolves.

Regent Cruises

Regent Seven Seas Cruises is working hand in hand with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and federal governments globally, to develop, implement and continually evolve industry-leading standards that will meet or exceed all requirements for health and safety protocols once those have been finalized by these authorities. These protocols will cover all aspects of onboard and shore-side operations to ensure the continuous well-being of their guests and crew. Regent is also putting in place a council of leading experts in health and safety to provide ongoing guidance for improving their health and safety measures.

SANITIZED & CERTIFIED VIRUS-FREE SHIPS

All ships are disinfected, evaluated, and certified as virus-free when they re-enter service. This service is performed by Sabre BioResponse, the world leader in decontamination services.

CONTINUOUS SHIP-WIDE DISINFECTION & DAILY FOGGING OF ALL SUITES AND PUBLIC SPACES

Regent's 24/7 prevention schedule will feature continuous disinfection of public areas and high-traffic touch points as well as daily fogging of all suites, public spaces, and guest corridors. The fogging process utilizes a hospital-grade oxidant that is natural, safe, and non-toxic. Guest suites will receive intensive microbial disinfection daily, which includes fogging of the entire space inclusive of bathrooms and closets.

ALL-NEW HOSPITAL-GRADE AIR FILTRATION SYSTEM

New, upgraded HVAC systems will incorporate the latest advances to be superior to those found in land-based resorts. Each ship will utilize fresh-air induction and be equipped with the highest-tier HEPA 13 hospital-grade filters for all accommodations and public spaces.

DEDICATED PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICER

Each ship will have a dedicated Public Health Officer on board, responsible for the oversight of all sanitation and outbreak prevention initiatives. Additionally, they will monitor the day-to-day cleanliness of all public areas and accommodations, maintaining compliance with the CDC’s Vessel Sanitation Program. They will work hand-in-hand with the ships’ medical team on board, as well as the corporate Public Health and Medical departments shore side.

CHANGING ITINERARIES

Regent constantly monitors the global health map and cancel or modify itineraries to impacted areas. Regent also prevents guests and crew who have recently traveled through high-risk locations from boarding.

PARTNERS IN PREVENTION

Regent is partnering with local destinations and tour operators to ensure industry-leading health and sanitation protocols extend to the shoreside experience. Embarkation terminals, tour coaches, and the attractions Regent visits must meet or exceed the stringent protocols they employ on board to ensure the continued health and safety of their guests and crew.

Viking Cruises

Vaccine Requirement
Viking requires that all guests be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at least 14 days prior to travel. For added protection, we strongly recommend that guests who are eligible for a booster receive one before departing. All crew are required to be up-to-date with their immunization. This policy is aligned with current guidelines from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). You may be required to show proof of vaccination for embarkation on a Viking ship. Please note, some countries along your journey may require a booster dose. On select itineraries where required by local authorities, you will submit verification of COVID-19 vaccination status through VeriFLY, an independent third-party mobile app.

Purified Air
Enjoy fresh air in your stateroom, knowing that all staterooms on Viking ocean ships feature independent air handling units that do not share air with other areas of the ship. Take comfort in knowing that the air in the public areas of your ship has also been purified with new short-wavelength ultraviolet (UV-C) lights and high-density filters, which kill 99.99% of all airborne viruses and bacteria.

Medical Services
While every precaution can reduce the risk of illness, we are also prepared for that outcome. Each of our ocean and expedition vessels has always had a state-of-the-art Medical Center; those facilities have now been upgraded with more specialized equipment. We have also launched a new 24/7 hotline staffed by doctors.

Sanitization
Rest assured that the surfaces on your ship will be cleaned and sanitized continuously with daily scheduled deep cleanings. You will notice more hand sanitization stations throughout your ship. And on our ocean ships, we are using new sanitization robots that utilize UV-C light to treat surfaces in guest and crew public areas—an industry first.

Dining & Entertainment
On your ship, you can expect spacious, airy public areas and abundant options for al fresco dining. Also, on our ocean voyages, as always, you can enjoy complimentary 24-hour room service. Now, more options for spaced seating in all dining venues will allow for physical distancing; there will be additional table service at all bars and lounges; and new capabilities will allow you to watch more live events and enriching content through your in-room entertainment system.

Physical Distancing & Face Masks
Public health experts agree that proper physical distancing and the use of face masks are effective in helping slow the spread of COVID-19 and other illnesses. Face masks are optional while moving about the ship. Please note: Viking’s Medical Team continually monitors conditions and may deem face masks to be necessary while moving about the ship, based on conditions at the time of travel. While ashore, guests will need to comply with any local guidelines for face masks and physical distancing. Face masks continue to be required for all crew.

Virgin Voyages Cruises

The Voyage Well plan was created in partnership with expert advisors consisting of scientists, doctors and clinicians. Referred to as the Voyage Well Expert Advisory Group, this team is composed of partners at AtmosAir Solutions, EcoLab, Dr. Heymann with Vikand, Global Public Health Services, and close collaboration with the CDC as well as frequent reviews of WHO best practices and guidelines.

On top of a uniquely designed HVAC system that pumps fresh air through the new ship's public spaces and cabins to effectively remove recirculated air, Virgin Voyages will be among the first in the industry to invest in the installation of a 100% fresh air, ‘bow to stern’ air purification system. In partnership with AtmosAir Solutions, Scarlet Lady and her sister ships will be equipped with an air purification system that also disinfects air on board by leveraging bi-polar ionization technology that has been shown to kill 99.9% of viruses. In addition, recent tests performed by Microchem Laboratory, one of the world’s preeminent laboratories for testing EPA- and FDA-registered sanitizing products, has reported that this HVAC device is more than 99.9% effective in neutralizing Coronavirus.

In addition, Virgin Voyages has developed a comprehensive plan, with key points that work to address all safety standards before, during, and after a voyage.

Key pillars of the Voyage Well Plan include:

  • Rapid and effective COVID-19 testing for all Sailors and Crew prior to embarking
  • Post-voyage notification process through which Sailors and Crew can report on becoming unwell within 14 days of leaving the ship* (through an ethical health tracking app)
  • Advanced pre-boarding health checks and screenings for both our Crew and Sailors
  • Thermal Camera technology in terminals and on board to monitor our Crew and Sailors' temperatures
  • Implementing best practices around sanitation, physical distancing, limited occupancy, and health checks for everyone on board
  • Installing the latest technology from AtmosAir Solutions - an air purification system that disinfects air on board. Leveraging bi-polar Ionization technology that has been shown to kill 99.9% of viruses
  • Managing overall ship occupancy so appropriate physical distancing is possible across all public spaces
  • Leveraging digital onboard technology to limit contact; The Band (for contactless payment), Service Chat (for assistance digitally) and Virtual Queues (for getting in lines for onboard experiences without actually getting in physical lines)
  • As has always been a part of the Virgin Voyages experience since first introducing the brand, there will be no communal food sharing, buffets or large dining halls, allowing for hygienic service of fresh food
